SCCOE Internal Resource Site (SIRS) Needs Assessment​

My project rose out of my personal experiences using the SCCOE intranet and wanting to focus on the SCCOE goal of improving organizational effectiveness and efficiency. While the SCCOE intranet is presented as an internal resource site for employees, many of its offerings are not as user friendly as they could be, updated on a regular basis, or designed in such a way as to provide more effective and efficient interdepartmental interactions. With these problems in mind, I decided to find solutions through a needs assessment approach. One of my initial steps for my project was to collect data by designing a SCCOE Internal Resource Site (SIRS) survey. In this way, I could see how and how often the intranet is used by SCCOE personnel, if others have the same issues with the intranet that I have, and to find possible solutions to improve the intranet for the end user. The results of the survey provided plenty of data for analysis to assess needs and propose where improvements are required. Through the process of this project, I was able to get a better understanding of the role of other departments within the SCCOE organization and work toward achieving a SCCOE Goal. |

Putting the Educator in Paraeducator

Currently the SCCOE has one class of paraeducators who have little to no career growth opportunities. The purpose of this project is to support the stated goal of the SCCOE of being a premier employer and propose a career ladder for paraeducators.
This project proposes two different categories of paraeducators. The first category is a resource paraeducator, to provide specialized instructional services to students with IEPs. The second category is a Behavior Interventionist/Technician, to provide specialized evidence-based behavior support services to students. |

How to Support Children in Foster Placement at Points of Transition with CSEFEL

My project is about the use of the Center on the Social and Emotional Foundations in Early Learning (CSEFEL) materials and framework to support children in foster placement as they transition to a new school. The presentation also includes integration of CSEFEL with Casey Foundation’s trauma informed curriculum for school environments. Efforts are under State Priority 10, to assist school districts in building capacity to help children in foster placement achieve higher educational outcomes.
CSEFEL professional development training was done collaboratively with WestED, the organization that produced the Invisible Achievement Gap Studies I and II, and informed AB 854, the legislation that went into effect on October 11, 2015, operationalizing the Local Control Funding Formula (LCFF) for pupils in foster placement. |

CALPADS Collaborative

California Longitudinal Pupil Achievement Data System (CALPADS) is a longitudinal data system used to maintain individual-level student data which supports critical state and federal reporting and therefore funding to LEAs. The purpose of my project is to create an SCCOE-facilitated peer collaborative that invites all districts/LEAs within Santa Clara and San Benito counties to help with successful data certification in CALPADS. The mission of the collaborative is to learn and collaborate on different data management solutions for effective CALPADS data submissions. We would have representatives from California Department of Education (CDE) at these group meetings who will share best practices and provide previews of forthcoming system changes. |

How-to Guide for Office Coordinators and Administrative Assistants

While at the SCCOE, and during the transitions between departments, a clear support need surfaced for all department Office Coordinators and Administrative Assistants that included detailed, documented training materials. The need surfaced as a result of my acclimation process, the questions asked during my learning, and with inefficient resources, limited information, and/or inconsistencies in the responses received. Understanding this was a fixable, systemic issue, the CFL project presented itself in a timely manner. Based on results from a survey I created, instructions for Employee Travel Requests, Employee Expense Reimbursement, Mileage Reimbursement Claim Forms, Purchase Order Change (POCO) were the most desired. My project focuses on developing instructions for those items. |

SCCOE Referral Information Management System

The SCCOE Referral Information Management System (RIM) is an inter-departmental project developed by the Technology Services Branch to improve the workflow, processing and management of referrals received by the Special Education department at SCCOE. For many years school districts and the SCCOE processed referrals for special needs services as well as student placement using faxed paper copies. Developing RIM required extensive cross-team collaboration over the past year and its successful roll-out is a proud example of the SCCOE’s dedication to providing streamlined, modern tools both to our employees and district customers. |

A Webpage Designed for the Vision and Orientation & Mobility Department

Organization gives us a sense of control and allows for increased efficiency and productivity at work. The use of an organized and simplified webpage can be helpful, especially in an institution where the needs can be diverse. The Vision and Orientation & Mobility webpage () aims to help not only our department, but also teachers, service providers, and paraeducators at SCCOE, by making the most visited links/sites (web email, SIRAS, Subfinder, ESS, OMS, and Vitality) more accessible to them. Also, this webpage has links to sites of interest to vision professionals. An added bonus of our webpage is the fact that it contains several forms which we often use. These forms are accessible to all Educational Vision Specialists and Orientation and Mobility Specialists, including those with visual impairments. |

Multicultural Celebration

The purpose of my project was to design a multicultural celebration to engage employees and promote the SCCOE goal: Be a Premier Employer. The project turned into the SCCOE Multicultural Celebration Month. Each of the sites will be given a toolkit and the event will be celebrated for an entire week of the site’s choosing during the month of April. The celebration will include: Multicultural Champions Pin and Award Ceremony, Lunch-and-Learn Diversity Talks, Wear Cultural Clothes Friday, cultural performances, global cuisine at the Ridder Park cafeteria, and potlucks. |

My project was to leverage the power of technology to integrate Human Resources and Finance in order to optimize our benefits. Phase one of my project was to build a collaborative team that is trained to deploy the Benefits Management module in QCC.
