Equity, Diversity, Inclusion, and Partnership are all values held by our county office. But, what do they all mean? How might we create the conditions necessary for our colleagues to truly embody these values in the work we do for our diverse student and employee populations? This project considers how sharing our stories can create a culture of breaking silos in order to address inequitable practices. It also explores how this type of dialogue can support teams in designing more inclusive systems.

A Community of Practice in Special Education to Promote Evidence-Based Practice

A community of practice (CoP) in special education aims to provide an accessible co-learning environment and foster inter-professional, real-time collaboration and mentorship on the integration of evidence-based practice into best practices in the classrooms. An Evidence Catalog will showcase the evidence-based resources that the CoP will share to the special education community.

Self-Assessment and Interest Inventory Instrument (for individuals with severe and/or profound disabilities)

An instrument that measures the hopes and dreams of individuals with severe and/or profound cognition, taken directly from the individual to create a student-centered transition plan, which becomes part of the student's IEP from age 15 to 21 when he/she ages out of special education program.
The instrument will provide educators, Regional Center and department of Rehabilitation with information about the student's values, skills, career and living preferences for them to be able to identify an appropriate vocational training, job and residence for the student upon the completion of a post-secondary program.

Technology Services: An Elixir?

Curious to learn more about Technology and Data Services Division's (TDSD) impact at SCCOE, I stepped out in search of information about what our Division does and how. How can our organization leverage TDSD's efforts more proactively? Can TDSD be involved in the decision-making process, instead of supporting an initiative after its launch or reacting to the latest crisis? During my quest, I realized that my learning had to be from the inside-out, busted a few myths, and had some reality checks. Now it's time to collect information from other divisions and share what I have learned.

We know that more and more districts are starting to have the devices and infrastructure to support technology use in the classroom, but how much of that technology is being used in ways that effectively enhance student learning? This project is designed to expand the Educational Technology Service Team's reach beyond face to face trainings and online courses, to the sharing of stories from ·¬ÇÑÉçÇø educators who are shining examples of using digital strategies to amplify pedagogy.

ChildPlus is the system that hosts information on children and staff in Early Learning Services and is used to report to the federal government. Providing updated information into ChildPlus is vital in increasing efficiency and accuracy, and contributes to the SCCOE's goal to be a premier service organization. Collaborating with the Technology & Data Services Division and the Human Resources Division, we streamlined the process and automated the sending of information needed for updating ChildPlus.

A Model Program for Facilitating Inclusion Practices in SCCOE Using a Collaborative Team Approach

A survey of the different SCCOE special education classrooms brought to light some interesting facts about the current status of inclusion in our programs. It also identified the challenges that we face. What if WE, the IEP team of professionals can step outside our box and collaboratively CREATE programs that are universally designed for learning? This project showcases a model program in that is designed to make learning fun and meaningful for students of all abilities. The goal is to help our students grow up in a community where people not just know about them but truly know them.
