For my Champions for Leadership project, I created a video that showcases our students and how we partner with local businesses in our community to provide work experience for students. We intend to show this video to prospective businesses who might be interested in partnering with us. Prospective partners will understand how partnering with us will benefit them along with our students. |

ASAPconnect is a statewide project that aims to connect Technical Assistance (TA) providers with programs and professionals. Our existing directory housed over 300 TA Providers yet the level of interaction and collaboration was minimal. The goal of
U & I is to change the end-users experience (be it for a TA Provider or program). This experience being one where registered TA Providers can easily upload content and interact with other TA Professionals. Each member will be part of ASAPconnect's virtual community, with the ability to customize their individual pages and upload content, share challenges and success stories.
This user-generated directory will allow programs to be able to search and view the registered TA Providers when attempting to align professional and programmatic needs to the appropriate trainers, coaches, mentors, consultants and/or resource brokers.

Our goal in DBAS is to give everyone an opportunity for professional and personal growth. The MasterClass implemented a support panel to help and guide participants. While the ·¬ÇÑÉçÇø Office of Education (SCCOE) has established response teams, such as the First Aid Team and Emergency Operations Center, to respond to a variety of emergency situations, there is currently not a SCCOE team that responds to school site crisis in a culturally sensitive, effective and coordinated manner. This project focuses on creating a crisis response team that will meet the mental health needs of students and staff on Alternative Education campuses after a crisis has occurred. The purpose of the Crisis Team to reduce maladaptive responses to grief and trauma immediately in order to assist individuals to return to a state of productivity as soon as possible. Resources shared will include a tiered response and protocol to engage the crisis team, training outline, as well as a project plan as to next steps with regards to implementation. |

This project demonstrates the value of utilizing portable data collection devices to gather real time data on students and using that data to better serve the students and the staff working with them. A keynote presentation will be offered to demonstrate the project outcomes and help participants better understand the significance of this project and its outcomes. |
Desfosses, Dorothy Common Core Teaching Strategies For EL Students: Models for High School Math and Science |
My project focuses on the development of common core content lessons in the areas of high school math and science. These models have been specially designed to help support teachers in scaffolding core lessons which demonstrate purposeful learning and content objectives for both EL (English Learner) students, and non EL students. Resources shared will be SDAIE (Specially Designed Academic Instruction in English) lesson designs; including learning activities, sentence frames, and assessment strategies. I will outline a plan to lead SCCOE in the direction of having a set of core content lessons available on the math and science WIKI as a teacher resource. |

This project takes a look at the policies and procedures for translating documents in our county office. Our project is to develop a website for the Technology Resource Advisory Committee (TRAC.).
TRAC is dedicated to getting the right technology tools into the hands of the administrators, staff, faculty and students who need it to create, innovate and collaborate. The guidelines included on this site will assist users with determining what standard computers, software, projectors, tablets, mobile devices, printers, and other equipment the SCCOE offers for purchase. As a value added service, we offer technology consulting to assist those who have a creative or innovative project or idea and need some technology advice or recommendations. Our team is available to consult on the selection of non-standard and specialized administrative and academic technology needs.
The website will include links to the SCCOE current equipment standards, a link to a Technology Consultation request form, a method to TRAC (pun intended) the status of submitted requests, and an automated response system when proposals are submitted.

My project will focus on the development and implementation of metrics for Head Start recruitment and the subsequent tracking of applications for new families. To that end, a barcode system and supporting database was developed and deployed for all Head Start applications. Similarly, an evaluation summary form was developed and deployed for recruitment events with plans to develop the supporting database. Access to Google Analytics for the Head Start website was established for increased analysis of recruitment efforts as they pertain to use of the internet with the goal of developing an online application whereby families may directly submit their information online for increased efficiency, relieving Head Start staff of needless transcription of paper applications. |
Estupin, Nelson and Pedroza, Latisha Educating the Educator: How To Make the Most of Your Teaching Credential |
As members of the credentials staff at SCCOE, we see a many teachers with a variety of problems regarding their credentials and the assignments they teach. Because of the downturn in the economy and budgetary issues with employing school districts, we have seen an influx of qualified teachers who are either new to the profession, have been pink-slipped and are on the cusp of losing their jobs, teachers who have been out of the workforce and are trying to find a job, or teachers who are looking to better their marketability as educators. More often, these teachers have not read their credentials and do not understand the potential that their document holds. Our project focuses on getting these teachers the information they need to understand the document that employs them and how to enhance their documents with additional authorizations to make these educators more marketable in today's highly competitive teacher job market. |

Garcia, Marites An Overview Guide for Teachers Working With Paraeducators

My project is to prepare a brochure or booklet, depending on the size of information gathered, that will give new teachers some new ideas and refreshers about how to work effectively with paraeducators in the classroom. This will offer information about how new teachers and paraeducators can function as a team to improve students' learning.
The brochure includes handy, straightforward advice and activities based on the survey conducted among special education teachers in two PLT Teams, professional readings, and best practices of teachers. This will focus on productive working relationships between teachers and paraeducators. This covers the key topics related to working with and supervising paraeducators, assigning responsibilities, communicating, monitoring quality of work, providing meetings, and creating a feedback loop; and the roles of teachers vs. roles of paraeducators as a team.

House, Sonja FYS FosterVision – a Management Information System to Enable Effective Tracking of Foster Youth and Homeless Students in ·¬ÇÑÉçÇø

My project focuses on tracking and monitoring the academic progress for children and youth living in the foster care system through the development of a secure database. The database will contain basic education information, school placement history, including the agency providing oversight, as well as other critical components to help better serve these students. The overarching purpose of the database is to provide an avenue for professionals involved in the lives of foster youth to obtain accurate academic information to guide educational decision making for the foster youth. In addition, information obtained from the database will be used as a reporting tool giving these professionals first-hand information to assess the educational progress, barriers, and needs of students in the foster care system. |
Mason, Dan Enterprise: Fulfilling Local Assessment Data Needs |
This project focuses on making SCCOE's local assessment data easier for our Alternative Education Department (AED) to integrate into their reporting and monitoring cycle. Successful implementation will mean clear understandings of all cross-department process responsibilities related to this subject, as well as improvement of the technology tools involved in the process in order to provide data sets in forms that are easier to work with. This goal is coming closer to being accomplished thanks to partnerships between Assessment & Accountability, Network Services & Technical Support, Systems Administration, Renaissance Enterprise Assessments, Aeries student information system and AED. |

Nielsen, Laurie Person-First Terminology Policy

My project focuses on how to inform the leadership team of the SCCOE Person-First terminology policy, which states that employees will place the person before the label in writing or speech. A presentation will be given to the leadership team and a resource kit including a self-assessment, poster, and visual reminder will be created to support the leadership team towards their use of Person-First terminology. I will discuss a three-year plan to eventually roll out the policy to all SCCOE employees. |

The purpose of this project is to promote and educate parents and Local Educational Agencies of the importance of parent education and also to highlight some of the excellent parent education opportunities offered by the ·¬ÇÑÉçÇø Office of Education (SCCOE).
The evidence of the positive effect informed parental involvement has on a student's academic success is overwhelming. The SCCOE understands this and has always strived to create an environment where parents and guardians are welcomed partners in the education of their children. For example, for the last three years the Alternative Education Department has been working with the ·¬ÇÑÉçÇø District Attorney's Office to offer parents of strong-willed or out of control kids a parent education program called, "The Parent Project." The Parent Project is a nationally acclaimed parenting program specifically designed for the parents of strong-willed or out of control kids. Parents learn and practice prevention and intervention strategies for specific deviant behaviors. This project's creation of the bilingual videos will enable us to get the message out about this class and the other valuable classes and services the SCCOE offers to enhance parent participation.

My project focuses on creating a centralized database in which all our Enrollment Specialists can access to assist parents who are calling for status on their child's enrollment application regardless of the site in which they applied. Our Enrollment Team is no longer in a central office; therefore there's a gap in obtaining information to update the parent calling due to not having the information on hand. My goal is to work with the program director in creating a database where the enrollment specialists can access the child's application, documents submitted and any comments associated with the application. Having this database will allow any Enrollment Specialist, regardless of the site assigned, to access the child's information and give the parent an update on the first call, eliminating the need to transfer the parent from desk to desk to get a response. |

My project focuses on using district expenditure data to determine whether smaller school districts are less efficient than larger districts. This topic is of special interest at the moment, given the continuing fiscal pressures faced by districts and the increasing interest in school district consolidation in ·¬ÇÑÉçÇø based on the argument is that increasing the size of districts will allow them to benefit from economies of scale. My analysis shows that small (< 1,000 ADA) districts are less efficient than larger districts. |

My project is a handbook for recruiters and direct service providers (advocates). It will serve as a comprehensive resource for the purpose of maximizing direct services to families and youth while simultaneously accomplishing administrative tasks, such as completing eligibility forms. The measurable goal of this project is to help increase the proportion of services versus administrative time reported by field staff at 31 school districts to >50%. |

Our project focuses on digitizing the Champions for Leadership program by creating a Moodle site. The new site will enable participants to interact with each other via the site by creating an opportunity to build professional learning communities. In sharing best practices, growth and shared knowledge opportunities, this site will be an instrumental tool in guiding participants through the program. Program resources will be available 24/7. |

My project will outline the lessons learned after participating in a school wellness award program process this year. I will discuss best practices among award winning school wellness programs and how they compare to the current SCCOE wellness program design. Wellness programs can have a great financial impact on both SCCOE and the overall success of staff and students. I'll outline a path to leading SCCOE in that direction. |
