Automating Salary Account Changes – Our project incorporated leadership practices while developing an online QSS application to process position salary account allocation changes. The current manual process creates duplication of efforts and multiple opportunities for errors. An automated system would reduce the chance for error and lost data, and would provide approval tracking. |

I chose to explore the certificated hiring process and how we, Human Resources (HR), can improve upon that service to our customers. Our customers include everyone in our organization and the candidates who interact with HR to fill a certificated position. A survey was conducted, data collected and a focus group formed to review the data and identify issues and brainstorm for improvements. I will review the project "HR 101 Certificated Hiring Process" as well as share my experience with the CFL Mentor Program, and what I learned in the process. |

We collaboratively teamed up with a vision of how to improve overall data collection, data management, and data retrieval within the SCCOE. With this common vision the S.M.A.R.T project was born. The S.M.A.R.T. project aims to streamline site specific data from Special Education, Alternative Education, and Head Start into a new, all-inclusive SCCOE database. This improvement will provide consistent, efficient, and accurate real-time information availability that will help to break-up existing "data islands" in favor of a "one-stop-shop" approach. The overall goal of the S.M.A.R.T project is to create a centralized database available to all SCCOE staff members who need to access site specific information. The project I focused on involved finding the best way to improve the Head Start data collection and reporting of students' developmental ratings so that teachers can obtain accurate and timely classroom reports. Having teachers correctly enter demographic information and data is crucial. Without reliable data collection methods, tracking students from the beginning to the end of the school year becomes difficult. In the future, Head Start will probably move away from collecting student scores on paper and work towards online data collection and reporting. |

Our project focuses on centralizing the supervision and leadership of the Family Advocates from the Coordinators of Instructional Support to the Health Services Coordinator and the Family Advocacy Coordinator. We will discuss the program structure that existed before, what changed, why changes were made, and the new program structure we are transitioning into. We will share the transition process and how CFL helped us in our journey to improve the delivery and quality of comprehensive services for Head Start children and families. |

The project I chose was to update the SCCOE Foster Youth Services (FYS) website to make available on-line information and resources to foster, homeless and juvenile justice youth as well as the ·¬ÇÑÉçÇø community. The new FYS website will include information and resources such as laws that protect the rights of these youth, post-secondary information, the FYSIS database and other resources. I have really enjoyed being a part of CFL. The workshops were informative and provided knowledge that will be beneficial for me in the future. |

The OSY (Out of School Youth) Network Project is an online data collection system. This online electronic system will track student demographic data and student services in order to reduce paperwork, improve data collection, increase program accountability, and enhance delivery of services. |

My project focused on the establishment of multiple advisory teams within the school and community in the arts. The teams provided professional development, resources and networking to further the countywide arts initiative, Artspiration. These networks also looked at communication, advocacy, and engagement in the arts. The secondary project was probably most important – my self confidence and ability to be the best I can be. And this is where I had the most success this year! |

I chose to develop a classroom teacher resource guide for our Foster Grandparent program as my CFL project. The binder includes vital information for teachers to quickly access regarding the program including; a program overview, forms, and specific lists of activities and tasks Foster Grandparents may participate in within the classroom. I will highlight the contents of the binder in my presentation and also share my thoughts around what I learned in CFL about leadership being a movement. |

The goal of this organization is to be a premier employer in ·¬ÇÑÉçÇø. The objective of District Business and Advisory Services Department (DBAS) is focused on creating a positive culture of exceptional customer service to districts by providing support and guidance that is accurate, informative and helpful. In support of this objective, for my project, I chose to develop a customer satisfaction survey that will provide a true measure of the effectiveness of services being provided by DBAS at various levels. This will serve as a tool for immediate feedback that can be used to understand and identify areas of improvement and training. It will also serve as a decision making tool for management in the determination of allocation of resources to the various needs of the department. |

Change is constant. Change is good. The Champions for Leadership Program helped me through the critical changes in Alternative Education leadership, and in my roles and responsibilities as an assessment technician. I welcomed the opportunity to make a contribution, become part of the solution, and make my time worthwhile at SCCOE by:
- Understanding and internalizing the core values of SCCOE
- Standardizing and documenting basic assessment procedures
- Finding an innovative, and more efficient method of generating assessment reports
- Discovering and implementing a powerful tool, KAMP=P (Knowledge x Applications (test-taking strategies) x Motivation = Performance) to "more accurately assess the needs of individual students" to help increase performance

My project added nature to preschool playgrounds throughout ·¬ÇÑÉçÇø. This was achieved in collaboration with Head Start and the Nature Collaborative. It was an amazingly simple process that involved being resourceful and watching for opportunities to collect natural materials. Pre and post surveys using POEMS (Preschool Outdoor Measurement Scale) were done at the beginning and end of the school year. I focused on two specific playgrounds within the State Preschool program and made great progress throughout the school year. |

My project deals with three main topics. 1) Creating a policy to determine when food is served to help Head Start staff follow federal guidelines and remain in compliance with the expenditure of federal resources. 2) Participating in the planning stages of the Educare facility planned to open in 2014 as part of the efforts of the Office of Education and the city of San Jose as leaders to close the achievement gap. 3) Developing a better process to approve leases, contracts and memorandums of understanding that will help staff who deal with these documents work efficiently. |

My project is about local deployment of Migrant Education National I & R Curriculum. We were required to implement this program by the end of next school year. There have been many changes over the last few years so our challenge was to implement another requirement without stressing our recruiters. Our goal with this project was to make it easy for the recruiter by only filling in the gaps in their knowledge rather than going through the entire 40 hour curriculum. We accomplished this by designing a pre-test that assessed their knowledge. The result will be used to design trainings efficiently. This process also encouraged a buy-in by our recruits. |

Follow the adventures of a CFL participant as she navigates the harrowing and humor filled events in search of developing a Writing Gains Protocol for Osborne, Juvenile Hall. Our participant experiences personal insight, dangerous encounters with staff schedules and finally budget concerns. Through the process the resourceful and undeterred participant, with staff help and goodwill, develops, implements, and assesses two protocols in two areas: Writing Gains and CASHEE prep tutoring. Even though it started off as a single area of interest it develops into another project. As projects often do...or so I am learning. Come and experience the what, how and where. |

My project (Going Green) focuses on streamlining the current HR/interview process. Currently, we have a manual system that generates tons of paperwork. I will explain the development of a web-based system that will allow our interview panel members to conduct interview(s) via a laptop – thus, reducing paperwork. I also will be sharing my Champions for Leadership experience and the value I gained from participating in the program. |

Document destruction, more commonly known as shredding, is an activity performed by the Post-Senior students attending the Special Education classrooms in the SCCOE building. At the present time, students go to four different locations in the building to shred documents. My project recommends that all six commercial grade shredding machines within the building are consolidated into a single workroom, containing a "safe room" where customers may store their confidential documents awaiting destruction. This project would make shredding a much more efficient operation, and directly contribute towards decreasing funds allocated towards this office requirement. |

My project focused on the establishment of a coherent, systematic locally developed assessment system for the Alternative Education Department. The main objective of this project was to allow teachers to engage in meaningful dialogue about student thinking so that teachers can consider next steps for instruction and provide descriptive feedback to students about their learning progress. The implementation of this project required the involvement of multiple stakeholders and resources across three branches in the organization. During this project, teachers were able to dialogue about the district-wide, school-wide and classroom level results of ten science tests, two English tests and two math tests. While I am proud of the number of tests produced, I feel the most success when I hear our Alternative Education teachers discuss ways their students are thinking and sharing strategies with one another on ways to undo students' misconceptions and leverage prior knowledge in their lessons plans. This kind of professional growth for teachers is the ideal catalyst for improving education for all students.​
